Obviously the NFL Draft never goes as speculated, partially due to teams trading up or trading down (as in the case of Baltimore last year) to get a player they have highly ranked on their board.

What do you all think are some potential draft-day trades?

Here are some that I have thought up, but by no means guaranteed to happen.

- Detroit trades the #20 pick to New England for Matt Cassel. This would allow Detroit to select a left tackle with the first overall pick in the draft, landing them a tackle and a potential franchise QB with their first round picks. Not a bad day for the Lions.

- If Detroit or Kansas City elect not to take a QB, the Jets trade up into the top 10 (ahead of San Francisco) to draft the undrafted QB (either Sanchez or Stafford). The Jets have very little cap room to work with in free agency, so they will have to solve their QB issue via the draft.

- If Seattle or Cincy drafts Crabtree, Oakland may trade for Chad Johnson (maybe give up their 2nd round pick). Johnson wants out of Cincy, and everyone knows Al Davis loves speed and flashiness. This would also allow former O-line coach Tom Cable to draft a franchise tackle with the #7 pick.

- Houston and/or Buffalo trade down. Neither of these teams are perfect, but both of them have enough pieces, that they could be open to hearing offers from teams behind them to move up. Particular candidates would include New England or Baltimore (if Baltimore loses one of their 3 Free Agent linebackers) to draft Maualuga, Maybin, or another linebacker.

- If the Steelers lose Bryant McFadden to free agency, they may try to move up to take a corner. Supposedly they are very high on Alphonso Smith (CB-Wake Forest), and DJ Moore (CB-Vanderbilt) would also fill the need the Steelers have for a kick returner.

Heyy, great post, and I'll respond to all the possibles, along with a few I think could happen.

The Lions could trade for a quarterback, most likely Cassell or Anderson. Most likely, Cassel will take more than their 20th pick (2nd and/or 3rd?) but it is a very real possibility. That will likely depend on if the Pat's feel Brady can return 100% and if Cleveland likes Anderson or Quinn more.

In my mock, I agree that the Jets will take a quarterback, and likely will have to trade up to do that. However, to go above the 49ers may be quite difficult, and possibly unnecessary. Singletary has seemed to be quite happy with letting Shaun Hill and Alex Smith battle it out or sign a quarterback, rather than draft one.

Oakland may trade for Chad or Plax regardless of what happens with Crabtree. Tom Cable will want to find his O-Line players as soon as possible, and if he can get Jason Smith or Eugene Monroe or Michael Oher, he wouldn't be happier.

I agree that the Bills and Texans may trade down. Both have needs depth-wise, not neccessarily star power. The Ravens, Patriots both could trade up for linebackers, yes, but also the Colts, Dolphins, and Titans could trade up for a receiver such as Heyward-Bey or Hakeem Nicks, as both should be on the rise.

The Steelers likely will take a corner in the first 3 rounds regardless, but I agree they could look cornerback. However, team's like the Steelers usually look 2-3 years in advance when drafting (which is why they are so good), so I wouldn't be surprised if they already have his replacement in mind. Plus, Moore and Smith will likely both be gone, and Victor Harris could be there mid-late round 2 and he fits their system a little better.

Also, the Lions could trade back into round 1 for Josh Freeman if they pass on Stafford. The Rams and Raiders could trade back into round 1 for a recevier that falls as well. The Giants and Eagles are the two most likely to trade out.

Thanks again.
