BCS Beyond: Breaking Down the Top Four Teams

Better than to rant about why TCU should be in the Top 3, or why Florida/Alabama are running through an over rated 2009 SEC, I decided to stick to the numbers. While most of this is opinion based, I really feel for the most part it accurately reflects the team's this season up to this point. Keep in mind all these teams are undefeated, and all have very strong cases why they should be in the BCS title game. The number in each catagory rank each team against each other for that category (1 for the best, 4 the worst). Also, each position was ranked against each team, and while positions such as running back units, receiving units, offensive line, and the entire defense is highly debatable, I used stats, dominating ability, and my own scouting that I do for Optimum Scouting to decipher who goes where.

Notes:

-The Florida vs. Alabama SEC Championship game is the top game on their respected schedules, so the winner will get the boost in the Top Game Rankings

-Playing AT Clemson with the Heisman hopeful CJ Spiller seems to be a lot better than playing a Dez Bryant and Zac Robinson-less Cowboys team at home; Edge TCU

-These teams are the top 4 in total defense in the country (in defensive YPG allowed)

-Texas and TCU are within .01 percent on the BCS scale, so it’s a huge one point in Texas’s favor.

-Probably the Top 4 line-backing corps in the country

-Gary Patterson over Mack Brown will likely be hotly debated, but TCU’s been a top notch defense over the past 4 years, has a better offense, and does so at a lesser program. Patterson has a national title contender in a non-BCS conference; he sounds pretty good to me.

I leave Texas and TCU tied in the end, as that is how the numbers worked out and I promise nothing was fudged at all to make it work the way it did. In my opinion, in a match-up of TCU and Texas, TCU would win 7 out of 10 times, because of a more team defense and a more explosive yet balance offense. Still, the right to play the SEC champ will be determined by the voters themselves. Let the debating rage on.

your defense ranking doesn't make any sense

not sure how you managed to rank texas defense #1, but
then their defensive positions are ranked #4, #3 and #2.
that doesn't realy make any sense. similar flaws pervade...
feel free to explain.
